Holland America Line's Volendam has arrived at Pitcairn Island in the South Pacific Ocean, a place considered one of the most isolated inhabited places on Earth.
The island call took place on the 46th day of the 133-day Grand World Voyage, which started from Fort Lauderdale on January 4.
Pitcairn Island is located about 1,350 miles southeast of Tahiti. It is the only inhabited island in a group of four volcanic islands, with only 38 inhabitants.
Since the company considered it impractical to disembark passengers on Pitcairn, the islanders "brought the island on board."

A delegation of 28 residents, led by the island's mayor, boarded the Volendam to chat with guests and talk about life on the island.
Residents shared stories about life in one of the world's most remote communities with passengers and showcased handmade crafts created by local families.
In addition to cultural exchange, the Volendam team collaborated with Pitcairn leadership to provide support to the island.
Since supply ships only visit the island about four times a year, Florin Dragomir, the hotel's general manager, organized the transfer of fresh produce, including milk, meat, and eggs.

A small group of Volendam crew members were also invited to go ashore to visit Pitcairn Island, get to know it firsthand, and share their experiences with the passengers and crew on board.
Volendam Captain Rance van Eerten exchanged commemorative plaques with the Mayor of Pitcairn to commemorate the event.
