Virgin Voyages launches tiered pricing, new bar drink rewards system and tipping policy!
In response to demand from travel agents and guests, Virgin Voyages is preparing to change its booking pricing system. Starting October 7, the company will offer three fares: from “Basic” to “Premium”.
What each price range offers
The new pricing system, called VoyageFair Choices, will apply to Sea Terrace (balcony) cabins and below. The company says it is designed to give guests more flexibility and transparency than the previous model. A passenger's choice of service level will affect everything from internet access to when they can book a table in a restaurant.
There are three price levels:
• Basic tariff: this option is for those who value convenience over extra perks. It is a non-refundable rate that includes basic Wi-Fi for one device per person and the ability to reserve a table in the restaurant 15 days before departure.
This rate is suitable for people who stick to their plans, as changes to dates, names and cabins are not allowed.
• Essential Fare (The main tariff): Virgin describes it as the closest thing to the current (soon-to-be-former) pricing model.
It includes “classic” Wi-Fi for one device per guest and the ability to book tables 45 days in advance. It also offers more flexibility for changing departure dates (using Future Cruise Credit) and allows you to change the names of guests who are not the primary booker.
• Premium tariff: as the name suggests, this option is specifically designed for those who want additional benefits.
Chief among them is the ability to make restaurant reservations 60 days in advance, which was previously only available to guests in a deluxe cabin.
This category also includes “Premium” Wi-Fi for two devices per guest (with streaming and video capabilities), an in-cabin bar (the size of which has not yet been determined, but will likely depend on the cabin type), and access to a priority support line for pre-cruise reservations.
The only significant update for RockStar and MegaRockStar guests is that restaurant reservations can now be made 120 days in advance.

How tipping policies have changed
Previously, gratuities were included in the cruise price, but will now be displayed as a separate line item. While this does not affect the overall cost of the cruise, this decision provides transparency about the amount of gratuities and how they are used.
Additionally, those who choose to tip in advance will receive a discount on the daily rate. If paid in advance, the gratuity (or “contributions,” as Virgin calls them) will be per person per day. If paid on board, the cost will be per person per day. As before, these daily contributions cover all gratuities on board.
In a press release about the changes, Virgin explained that “the separate gratuity line item, offered in a prominent location, reflects the brand's commitment to transparency and simplifying the service process, making it clear and without hidden details.”
Why are they changing the system
“It's not about gimmicks or fine print,” says CEO Nirmal Saverimuttu. “We help you book your cruise with confidence, knowing that you'll be on board with an unforgettable Virgin experience: refined and special.”
