A new level of luxury: Oceania Sonata is on the horizon!

Oceania Cruises recently unveiled the first details of its new line of ships, the Sonata Class.

The first vessel in the series, Oceania Sonata, is being built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy.



According to the official press release, the ship will set sail on its maiden voyage in the summer of 2027, becoming the ninth ship in the Oceania fleet.

The ship was ordered as part of a record deal between Norwegian Cruise Line and Fincantieri. It will be followed by its sister ship, Oceania Arietta, in 2029. Each of the 86,000-ton ships will accommodate around 1,450 passengers, making them the largest in the Oceania fleet.

Sonata and Arietta will also be the most spacious and equipped ships in the fleet, the company said. The new class of ships heralds a new era of luxury cruising and will feature innovative design, Oceania said.



The company also emphasizes that the ships will be the pinnacle of culinary art, travel to the best destinations and refined luxury at sea. These ships will be the first in the fleet to have the prefix "Oceania" in their official name - this distinguishes them from previous newbuildings.



In addition to the two Sonata-class ships, Oceania is preparing to receive another Allura class ship. This liner will be a sister ship to the Vista (built in 2023). Allura is currently in the final stages of construction at the same Fincantieri shipyard.

The new 1,200-passenger ship is scheduled to be delivered to the company in time for its inaugural Mediterranean season in July 2025. As part of the fleet renewal, the company also plans to retire one of its oldest ships — Insignia — at the end of 2027. The ship, built in 1999, will be handed over to a new premium residential cruise operator, Crescent Seas, after completing a farewell tour of South America and Europe.
