Disney announces significant environmental achievements.

Disney Cruise Line announced that as of the end of fiscal year 2025, the company has eliminated more than 99 percent of single-use plastics used by guests across its ships and island destinations. The company credits this major milestone in its sustainability journey to its dedicated staff and crew members.

In a company blog post, leadership shared that teams have reimagined traditional dining service, while crew members have systematically phased out single-use items in favor of reusable alternatives.
The company stated that it has already phased out single-use plastic straws, souvenir bags, cutlery, and individual condiment packets across its entire fleet; teams are now tackling everyday packaging and other items.
This includes moving away from individual single-use packaging in favor of bulk dispensers and utilizing reusable tableware in dining venues.

At Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point and Disney Castaway Cay, single-use plastics have been completely eliminated for guests, and at Disney Castaway Cay, island operational teams have introduced updated waste sorting bins.
According to the press release, phasing out single-use items has fundamentally transformed the cruise experience. By switching to reusable shopping bags, the merchandise team eliminates nearly one million plastic bags every year.

Teams have replaced plastic water bottles with recyclable aluminum cans and installed water refilling stations in both guest and crew areas. They also transitioned to serving coffee and specialty beverages at 24-hour stations in plastic-free paper cups. Operational teams are also extending their efforts beyond guest areas to influence the supply chain.

Working closely with suppliers, procurement departments now buy hotel room towels in bulk, preventing excess single-use plastic packaging from ever reaching the ship, the company noted. The company also utilizes reusable pallet covers, replacing plastic stretch wrap at cargo docks in Port Canaveral, Port Everglades, and Singapore.

Among the cruise line's other initiatives:

• Stateroom hosts and hostesses are implementing waste reduction measures.
• Gifts for members of the Disney Cruise Line Castaway Club loyalty program are now distributed in paper packaging instead of traditional plastic wrapping.
• Reusable hygiene product dispensers are used in every stateroom.
