Norwegian Cruise Line welcomes the first ship at the new Great Stirrup Cay pier!

Norwegian Getaway became the first cruise ship to dock at a new pier on Norwegian Cruise Line private island, Great Stirrup Cay.

Currently, a large-scale modernization project is underway on the island, previously this private location relied solely on tenders* for passenger transportation.
*Tenders are small auxiliary vessels (boats or boats) used to transport passengers between a cruise ship and shore when the ship cannot dock directly at a pier.



Guests aboard the NCL Getaway were informed of this event through the ship's daily magazine, Freestyle Daily.

“Today marks a historic moment for Norwegian Getaway and in the history of Norwegian Cruise Line, as the ship becomes the first to dock at Great Stirrup Cay with the opening of our brand new pier,” the company noted in the event program.

“Each and every one of our guests on this cruise is making history with us at this important moment, becoming the first cruise passengers to disembark directly from the ship onto the island of Great Stirrup Cay,” the text continues.

The company added that in the future, all ships visiting this route, including Norwegian, Oceania and Regent, will use the multi-berth pier.

“As a company, we have made a transformational investment in Great Stirrup Cay to provide an improved guest experience, including no longer requiring passengers to travel from ship to shore by tender,” Norwegian said.



While cruising from the port of Miami, Norwegian Getaway visited Great Stirrup Cay as part of a three-day trip to the Bahamas.

The private island was the only port of call on the itinerary, which also included a day at sea before returning to Florida.

The new pier is part of a major redevelopment project at Great Stirrup Cay that also includes a large pool and a 15-acre water park. Great Tides, scheduled to open in 2026, will feature 19 water slides, a nearly 800-foot lazy river, and a wide range of water attractions.
