Robert Downey Jr. christened the Disney Adventure liner!

Robert Downey Jr. christened the Disney Adventure liner in Singapore before its maiden voyage!

Actor Robert Downey Jr. has become the godfather of the new Disney Adventure cruise ship and officially conducted its christening ceremony during a special event aboard the ship on Wednesday evening, March 4, in Singapore.

The Iron Man star arrived in Singapore after Disney announced him as the godfather of the ship, which will set sail on its maiden voyage on March 10.

“Well, no one's going to say I can't make a splash,” Downey joked as he took the stage at the Walt Disney Theatre to thunderous applause from the guests.

The actor said that he had the opportunity to get to know the Walt Disney Imagineering team better, and noted that the name Adventure is a perfect fit for this ship.

“It's just huge, gigantic. Have you been up there? There's a whole amusement park. It's just crazy! By the way, I recommend the Ironcycle roller coaster — I have a good feeling about it,” he joked before the ceremony began.

During the official christening, the actor uttered the traditional phrase: “I call you Disney Adventure. May God bless this ship and everyone who will sail on it.”

The day before, on Tuesday evening, the ship's arrival at the Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore was accompanied by a large-scale fireworks display.

The new ship will be able to accommodate approximately 6,700 passengers and has seven themed zones based on popular Disney stories — including Toy Story, Moana and the Marvel universe.

Disney Adventure is expected to be based in Singapore for at least five years.

Downey, who rose to fame as Tony Stark/Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, called his appointment as the ship's godfather “an honor, a privilege, a real pleasure and… an adventure.”

In a video posted on Disney Cruise Line's official website, the actor also gave a brief tour of the ship. In the clip, he visits various locations on board, wearing a jacket and a blue T-shirt depicting Doctor Doom, a character from the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie.

Despite his new villain role, Downey makes several humorous references to his iconic Iron Man character. For example, on the bridge, he said, “This is Stark technology right here,” and he also joked that “there's a lot of me here,” after seeing a painting of numerous Iron Man suits.

The video also shows him meeting crew members, including hugging Spider-Man and joking around with Loki.

President of Disney Signature Experiences Joe Schott said the ship's arrival in Singapore is an important milestone in the company's global expansion.

“The arrival of Disney Adventure in Singapore is an important milestone for our development, as it marks the first time Disney cruises are coming to Asia.”
Singapore Tourism Board CEO Melissa Ou added that Disney's decision to base the new ship in Singapore confirms the city's status as one of the world's leading cruise hubs.

The cruise ship will also introduce several new features to the region:
•    authentic Asian cuisine and new drinks, including bubble tea;
•    nearly 17,000 square feet of retail space with exclusive merchandise;
•    new stores, including World of Disney, the National Geographic Store and Duffy and Friends.

For adrenaline lovers, Marvel-themed rides have been prepared, including the Ironcycle Test Run, a roller coaster that will become the longest roller coaster at sea.
