Costa Cruises Reimagines Itineraries: From Geography to Unique Concepts
The cruise line Costa Cruises is shifting the focus of its «Sea & Land» itineraries: from now on, they will no longer revolve around geography, but around a concept connecting sea and land destinations.
Starting in 2027, each cruise will become a distinct concept with its own identity. As stated in a press release by Costa, these concepts will be built around iconic locations and its signature Sea Destinations onboard programming.
This step represents the evolution of the Sea & Land Wonder Platform, which the cruise line introduced in 2024 to bring together sea and land destinations.
«When we launched the Sea & Land Wonder Platform, our goal was clear: to place wonder at the heart of every moment of the journey, at sea and on land», — noted Francesco Muglia, Chief Commercial Officer & SVP of Costa Cruises.
«Results have confirmed that guests are increasingly seeking authentic experiences that leave a lasting impression. With the new itinerary concepts, launching in Summer 2027, we take a step further: each itinerary is inspired by a clear vision and develops as a coherent journey made of iconic places and defining moments».
This gives rise to itineraries such as «Golden Islands» aboard the Costa Fascinosa or «Blue Islands» aboard the Costa Serena. As their names suggest, the former is focused on experiences during sunrise and sunset, and the latter on Greek islands and the deep blue sea surrounding them.
Some concepts interpret regions through a distinct lens, such as «Lights of the Mediterranean», «Sea of Lights», «Aegean Icons» and «Aegean Islands» in the Mediterranean, or «Nordic Souls» in Northern Europe.
2026
Western Mediterranean (Costa Smeralda, Costa Toscana, Costa Pacifica): Sea Destinations will include stops in front of the Faraglioni at golden hour with live music at sunset, or sunrise in the Calanques National Park, accompanied by a concert.
Eastern Mediterranean (Costa Fascinosa, Costa Deliziosa, Costa Fortuna): Itineraries will link destinations such as Athens, Istanbul, and Dubrovnik with sea experiences such as Venice Lagoon, Calypso Deep, and Dardanelles Strait, paired with cultural performances.
Northern Europe (Costa Diadema, Costa Favolosa): The liners will explore Geirangerfjord and the Norwegian Sea, complemented by Scandinavian cities, Scottish Highlands, Icelandic geysers, and Arctic landscapes.
«Summer 2026 marks the full maturity of the Sea & Land approach, with guest satisfaction increasing by over 3 points year on year. Sea Destinations are becoming a key driver in choosing a Costa holiday, while land experiences continue to evolve to meet different travel styles», — noted Luigi Stefanelli, Vice President Sales.
«But we are already looking ahead: with the Summer 2027 concepts, the way of choosing a cruise itself will change. No longer “where to go”, but “what to experience”. It's a profound transformation that reinforces cruising as the most complete, flexible, and surprising holiday option available».
2027
Among the highlights of summer 2027 is the return of the Eclipse Cruise aboard the Costa Fascinosa on August 2, 2027. (By comparison, the 2026 edition of the Eclipse Cruise will sail on August 8 aboard the Costa Pacifica).
As for fall and winter:
When the liner Costa Smeralda debuts in the Canary Islands, the «Canary Sea Darkest Spot» experience will offer immersive stargazing in one of the darkest skies in the region.
In winter, Mediterranean itineraries will be available between Andalusia and North Africa. Specifically, the «Balearic Sea Darkest Spot» itinerary aboard the Costa Toscana will sail from March 2027.
Itineraries in the Caribbean aboard the Costa Fascinosa and Costa Favolosa will be enhanced by sea destinations such as Catalina Bay at sunset or the «Caribbean Sea Darkest Spot» experience.
