MSC is preparing a surprise: another private island in the Bahamas!

Soon, cruise travelers visiting the Bahamas will get a new exclusive destination — the private island Sandy Cay.

MSC Cruises is launching another private leisure area next to its marine reserve, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve. The opening of the new island is scheduled for 2028.

According to the company, Sandy Cay will become a place where passengers can truly reconnect with nature, enjoying tranquility among turquoise waters and white aragonite sand. The new island naturally continues the concept of Ocean Cay, which focuses on marine conservation and creating a unique experience for guests.

MSC Cruises — the world's third-largest cruise company — also confirmed that the new destination will be located right next to Ocean Cay, expanding leisure opportunities in the region.

“Introducing Sandy Cay,” the company stated while presenting the first renderings of the resort.

According to MSC, the new island will offer guests “a more peaceful and deeper connection with the natural rhythms of the ocean and the spirit of the Bahamas.”

The presented renderings showcase picturesque bays with signature turquoise waters, bright aragonite sand, as well as modern pools and relaxation areas available to passengers during the ship's call. More details about the project are expected to be released soon.



The success of Ocean Cay became the foundation for the creation of Sandy Cay. President of MSC Cruises North America Lynn Torrent noted:

“It will have its own soul and DNA, where elegance meets the authentic spirit of the Bahamas. The island will retain the same relaxed and genuine atmosphere that our guests value so much at Ocean Cay, while becoming its natural extension.”

Earlier, MSC Cruises announced large-scale upgrades at Ocean Cay. In particular, the construction of an expanded pier is planned, allowing two cruise ships to dock simultaneously. By the end of 2027, guests will be able to enjoy new island features, including four additional restaurants, a family lagoon, and a dedicated adults-only beach.

Ocean Cay, opened in 2019, offers relaxation across eight pristine beaches, a wide selection of restaurants and bars, as well as various activities — from snorkeling to visiting the lighthouse.

Following a large-scale environmental restoration, the island, previously used for sand mining, has been transformed into a space “dedicated to restoring marine resources and continuously protecting marine life.” According to official data, over 7,500 tons of scrap metal were removed from the site, and coral reefs were replanted to stimulate their growth and restore populations. During their stay on the island, guests can also learn more about ocean conservation and the importance of protecting coral reefs through special educational and entertainment programs.
