On 06/28/2021, a cutting ceremony was held on the "first steel" ship at the Chantiers de l`Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire, France.
MSC Euribia will be the second LNG-powered vessel in the MSC Cruises fleet to achieve significant emission reductions.
The liner will join the cruise company’s fleet in June 2023 and will be the 22nd ship in MSC Cruises.
Cruise company MSC Cruises has directed all its efforts to the construction of environmentally friendly cruise liners. As a result, MSC Euribia will become the second cruise ship in the fleet that will run on liquefied natural gas. LNG is by far the cleanest ship fuel currently available and virtually eliminates air pollutant emissions such as sulfur oxides (99%), nitrogen oxides (85%) and particles (98%).
Environmental Technologies MSC Euribia:
Engines and fuel:
4 Wärtsilä dual-fuel engines (12V and 16V) running on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and (sometimes) 0.1% sulfur marine gas oil (MGO). Therefore, a cruise ship does not require exhaust aftertreatment systems.
Air emissions:
Selective catalytic reduction system that reduces NOx emissions by up to 90%. When a vessel is powered by MGO (LNG offers a similar NOx reduction) - MSC Euribia will meet IMO Tier III standards regardless of the fuel used.
The ability to connect the vessel to the power grid in ports, which will allow the liner to operate without the engines turned on.

Wastewater:
- Advanced wastewater treatment system that complies with resolution MEPC 227 (64) of the International Maritime Organization to the most stringent global standards.
- An improved ballast water treatment system will prevent the introduction of invasive species into the marine environment through ballast water discharge.

Protection of marine life:
An underwater noise management system with a hull and engine room design that minimizes sound impacts, reducing their potential impact on marine life, especially marine mammals in the surrounding waters.
Energy efficiency:
All MSC Cruises new builds include a wide range of energy efficient equipment to help reduce and optimize engine usage. These include:
- intelligent ventilation system;
- modern air conditioning systems with automatic energy recovery circuits that redistribute heat and cold.
- LED lightening,
- intelligent control systems, to further improve energy saving.
MSC Euribia will also be equipped with automatic data collection systems for remote energy consumption monitoring and advanced analysis, which will enable real-time support to optimize operational efficiency on board.
