About Carnival Cruise Line
Carnival Cruise Line is one of the world’s most recognizable cruise brands – bright, approachable and laser-focused on fun. Founded in 1972, it carries millions of guests each year and is widely known as “The World’s Most Popular Cruise Line.” The fleet continues to grow and refresh, itineraries span the Caribbean, Bahamas, Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii, Europe and Australia, and the signature highlights are fun-zones, themed dining and a packed live-entertainment program on every ship.
• Fleet & destinations – 29 ships across multiple classes, from compact vessels to next-gen Excel-class LNG giants. Sailings range from short weekend getaways to 14-night voyages and beyond: Caribbean, Bahamas, Mexico, Alaska, Panama Canal, Hawaii, Europe, Australia and the South Pacific.
• Onboard hallmarks – BOLT® (the world’s first true roller coaster at sea), WaterWorks, Family Feud Live, Serenity 18+, Cloud 9 Spa, chef-driven eateries and distinctive bar concepts.
• New projects & private destinations – Celebration Key on Grand Bahama (an exclusive day destination with 30+ places to relax and play), ongoing upgrades to private beach experiences and an expanding network of homeports.
• Innovation & sustainability – the Excel-class trio (Mardi Gras, Carnival Celebration, Carnival Jubilee) runs on LNG, reducing emissions and improving efficiency; future builds are engineered with “green cruising” in mind.
Four Gates Group experts – we’ll match you with the right ship and itinerary for your budget and dates, help you choose staterooms (including Havana and Family Harbor), clarify what’s included, which add-ons are worth it, and arrange the trip end-to-end.
History of company
The story of Carnival Cruise Line charts a rise from a single audacious ship to a powerhouse fleet chosen by millions each year. Carnival made cruising truly mass-market and unabashedly fun – from the Fun Ships concept and prolific newbuild programs to onboard attractions, the Fun Ship 2.0 upgrades, LNG-powered flagships and the brand’s own private destination, Celebration Key.
1970s – the birth of the “Fun Ships”
• 1972 – Carnival Cruise Line is founded by Ted Arison and launches its first ship, TSS Mardi Gras (ex–Empress of Canada). A bold, affordable take on cruising quickly upends industry conventions.
• 1975-1978 – Carnivale and Festivale join after major refits. Architect Joe Farcus begins shaping Carnival’s signature “entertainment architecture” – vibrant interiors and the idea that the ship itself is the destination.
1980s – newbuilds and mass appeal
• 1982 – Tropicale debuts as the first all-new cruise ship the industry had seen in years, kicking off a multibillion newbuild era and introducing the now-iconic “whale-tail” funnel silhouette.
• Mid-late decade – Holiday, Jubilee and Celebration cement the brand’s reputation as “the world’s most popular cruise line.”
1990s – scale and series
• 1990-1998 – eight Fantasy-class ships enter service, setting a benchmark for mass-market sea vacations.
• 1996 – Carnival Destiny becomes the world’s first passenger ship over 100,000 GT. Spirit- and Conquest-class families follow, powering the most in-demand itineraries.
2000s – more options onboard
• Early decade – continued expansion, including Splendor and the Conquest series.
• 2009 – Dream-class arrives with a stronger family focus and larger waterparks.
• 2011 – the Fun Ship 2.0 upgrade program rolls out: Guy’s Burger Joint (Chef Guy Fieri), BlueIguana Cantina, RedFrog Rum Bar, BlueIguana Tequila Bar, Alchemy Bar and refreshed shows across the fleet.
2010s – “attractions at sea” and a refreshed image
• 2016 – Carnival Vista premieres first-at-sea features like an IMAX theater, the SkyRide bike track and an onboard brewery; Horizon and Panorama follow.
• 2018 – the Choose Fun brand campaign launches, NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal becomes Chief Fun Officer, and signature dining/bar concepts expand.
2020s – LNG flagships, digital convenience and new private shores
• 2021 – the Excel-class debuts with Mardi Gras, North America’s first large LNG-powered cruise ship, featuring BOLT – the world’s first true roller coaster at sea.
• 2022 – Carnival Celebration joins the Excel trio; Carnival Luminosa (ex–Costa Luminosa) joins the fleet for Australia.
• 2023 – Carnival Jubilee enters service, alongside the “Fun Italian Style” duo Carnival Venezia and Carnival Firenze. Family Feud Live continues rolling out across the fleet.
• 2024 – broader deployment of new entertainment formats and refreshed relaxation areas across multiple classes.
• 2025 – official opening of Celebration Key on Grand Bahama – an exclusive day destination with beaches, lagoons, family and adults-only zones, bars and restaurants purpose-built for Carnival guests.
The near future – even more fun and technology
• 2027 – Carnival Festivale joins the Excel family (homeport: Port Canaveral).
• 2028 – Carnival Tropicale follows.
• 2029-2033 – the new Project Ace platform: three ~230,000-GT megaships – the largest in brand history – featuring advanced green technologies and expanded entertainment capacity.
• 2026 – loyalty evolves from VIFP Club to the points-based Carnival Rewards program, with broader ways to earn and redeem.

IMPORTANT: Information provided for informational purposes only and may vary depending on the specific cruise.
Please check with your Four Gates Group cruise specialist for the most current details and conditions.
Carnival’s fares range from “book early, lock the price” to “fewer restrictions.” Core options include Early Saver with price protection, the more restrictive Super Saver and Pack & Go, plus qualified offers for VIFP/Past Guest, Military, Senior (55+) and Resident. Four Gates Group experts can match the fare to your dates, ship and stateroom style.
Early Saver – book early with price protection
• Offered up to 76 days before sailing (2-5 nights) and 91 days (6+ nights).
• Includes price protection: if a public like-for-like fare drops, submit a claim up to 2 business days before sailing to receive a category upgrade or a non-refundable onboard credit for the difference.
• Capacity-controlled; often paired with reduced, non-refundable deposits; changing ship/sail date before final payment may incur a fee depending on the promo.
Super Saver & Pack & Go – lower price, tighter terms
• Super Saver – non-refundable deposit from booking; commonly no advance stateroom selection (Guarantee).
• Pack & Go – non-refundable total fare at booking; stateroom assigned later (Guarantee).
Promotional & qualified rates
• Capacity-controlled offers for Military, VIFP/Past Guest, Senior (55+), Resident, etc. – may include reduced deposits or OBC; apply to public rates only, not to taxes/fees.
Lowest Price Guarantee – 110% difference as OBC
• Find a public lower rate within 48 hours of booking and Carnival will issue 110% of the difference as onboard credit. Separate from Early Saver’s long-running price protection.
Deposits, final payment & cancellations – quick guide
• Final payment due 76 days before sailing (≤5 nights) and 91 days (6+ nights). Before that date, standard bookings can be cancelled without penalty unless you chose a non-refundable deposit/price promo.
• Non-refundable rules: Early Saver & Super Saver – non-refundable deposits; Pack & Go – non-refundable total fare. Solo travelers place 200% of the per-person deposit (capped at cruise fare).
• Penalties escalate closer to sailing – for 6+ night cruises: no penalty until 91 days (except non-refundable amounts), then deposit/percentages per schedule.
Stateroom assignment (Guarantee)
• With Guarantee promos the cabin number/location is assigned later; obstructed views may occur. Exact terms vary by offer.
What makes up your total
• Total price = Cruise Fare + Required Cruise Fees & Expenses + Government Taxes & Fees – defined in the ticket contract and shown in your total and/or as line items.
What’s included vs. extra
• Included: your stateroom, most entertainment, gym, pools and main dining; complimentary non-bottled water, lemonade, iced tea, hot chocolate, and non-specialty coffee/tea in dining venues.
• Extra: alcoholic/premium drinks, specialty dining, Wi-Fi, spa, casino, IMAX and more at current onboard prices.
Smart picks
• Want the best public price with safety net – choose Early Saver. Prefer flexibility – stick to standard refundable fares. Willing to trade flexibility for price – consider Super Saver/Pack & Go. We’ll help you pick what truly fits your plans and budget.

Travel Documents & Online Check-in
What documents do I need to board a Carnival cruise?
For international itineraries, a valid passport book is required, with at least six months’ validity beyond your trip. For some U.S. “closed-loop” sailings, a birth certificate plus government-issued photo ID may be accepted, but Carnival strongly recommends a passport book. A passport is mandatory for certain destinations (e.g., Colombia, Greenland, Panama, Martinique) and when your cruise starts and ends in different U.S. ports. For Europe, Asia, Australia and transatlantic routes, a passport is required.
Do I need visas or electronic travel authorizations?
Yes, if required by countries on your itinerary. Guests are responsible for obtaining all visas/authorizations. Examples:
– United Kingdom: ETA becomes mandatory from January 8, 2025.
– Schengen Europe: ETIAS is expected by late 2026.
– United States: ESTA/visa requirements apply for flights and eligible nationals.
What happens if I don’t have the required documents?
Boarding will be denied without refund.
What documents are required for children and minors?
The same as adults: a passport or other acceptable travel documents per itinerary. If a child travels with only one parent/guardian, a notarized consent letter from the non-traveling parent/guardian is recommended. If surnames differ, bring proof (birth certificate, marriage certificate, court documents).
What is Online Check-in and when must I complete it?
Online Check-in is mandatory and must be completed no later than 12:00 a.m. (ET) the day before sailing. You’ll enter document details, choose a 15-minute Arrival Appointment, and receive your electronic Boarding Pass.
What must I present at the terminal?
Your passport or accepted travel documents, electronic Boarding Pass, and any required visas/authorizations.
What do Boarding Pass and Final Boarding Time mean?
The Boarding Pass confirms your check-in. Final Boarding Time is the cutoff for embarkation. Arriving after that time results in denied boarding without refund.
Can I upload my photo in advance?
Yes. Uploading a photo during Online Check-in speeds up embarkation.
What are the baggage acceptance rules at embarkation?
Recommended allowance: 1 suitcase per guest for 3-5-night cruises and up to 2 for 6+ nights. Each piece may weigh up to 50 lb (23 kg). Bags should be unlocked or TSA-locked for inspection. Personalized luggage tags are available in your e-docs after Online Check-in.
Dining & Beverages
What are the rules for bringing drinks and alcohol at embarkation?
Each guest aged 21+ may bring one 750 ml bottle of wine or Champagne per person. You may also bring up to 12 sealed cans or cartons (12 oz/≈354 ml each) of non-alcoholic beverages per person. All items must be in carry-on baggage and in original packaging. Other alcohol and beverages in plastic/glass bottles are not permitted.
May I drink my own wine/Champagne in the dining room?
Yes. A $ 15 corkage fee applies per 750 ml bottle.
How does the CHEERS! beverage package work?
CHEERS! includes alcoholic beverages priced up to $ 20 per serving, plus zero-proof cocktails, sodas, juices, coffee/tea, energy drinks, and 500 ml bottled water. You also receive 25% off wine by the bottle and drinks above $ 20. There is a limit of 15 alcoholic servings per 24 hours. Available on cruises of 3+ nights; not valid on private destinations (e.g., Celebration Key, Half Moon Cay, Princess Cays). Typical pricing: about $ 82.54 per person/day pre-purchase (incl. 18% service charge) and about $ 88.44 onboard. All adults (21+) in the same stateroom must purchase for the full voyage.
What does Bottomless Bubbles include?
Unlimited fountain sodas and juices for the entire voyage. Typical pricing: adults ~$ 11.21/day, kids ~$ 8.20/day (incl. 18%). Excludes bottled water, coffee, hot tea and souvenir-glass beverages. One drink at a time; about a 5-minute interval between orders.
Can I pre-order bottled water to my stateroom?
