Ukrainians urgently need to replace "extended" international passports - from October 29 they are considered invalid for crossing the border, - Ministry of Foreign Affairs!

As of October 29, Ukraine has abolished the military rule on extending the validity of passports. Now you can only travel abroad with a biometric passport (valid for up to 10 years for adults, up to 4 years for children).



If you have an "extended" document, it needs to be replaced. 

▪️The temporary procedure for extending the validity of passports, which was introduced in February 2022, is no longer valid.
▪️Traveling abroad is now possible only with a valid biometric passport (for adults (from 16 years old) - up to 10 years, for children under 16 years old - up to 4 years).
▪️Citizens who are abroad with an "extended" passport should contact the embassy or consulate of Ukraine.

What to do for those who have an "extended" passport

If you are currently in Ukraine:
If your international passport has been extended, it must be replaced with a new biometric one in accordance with current regulations.
Contact:
- branches of the State Enterprise "Dokument" or
- the Central Migration Service or
- the territorial unit of the Migration Service

If you are currently abroad and have an “extended” passport:
- Contact the Ukrainian embassy or consulate in your country of residence.
- They can issue an ID card for returning to Ukraine (sometimes called a “white passport”) on the day of application.
- For children under 16 years of age, this service is free of charge.
- For persons over 16 years of age, according to the consular fee rates.



Additional nuances and consequences

- Due to the new rule, EU border guards and airlines may not let a person with an "extended" passport or with a child included in the parents' passport.
- The legislation of the vast majority of countries and the norms of international organizations (for example, ICAO) stipulate that a passport must have a limited validity period (no more than 10 years).
- Ukraine allows having two valid international passports at the same time (for example, if one is still valid and you want to apply for another).
