Celebrity Xcel: a new liner and its godmother!

Celebrity Cruises has released photos of the new Celebrity Xcel, which is being built in France at the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in Nantes. The 3,244-passenger ship will be the fifth in the Edge-class fleet. It will feature seven new concept spaces not found on other ships in the class.

Among the most exciting new features is the Bazaar space, where guests can enjoy regional cuisine and drinks, full meals, daily carnival events, as well as LED walls that change the atmosphere depending on the theme. The interactive center will be the “Be Yourself” lounge, where visitors can communicate in a relaxed atmosphere with musicians, dancers and artists who will perform in a mostly improvised style.

In addition to the new spaces, the company announced that the godmother of Celebrity Xcel will be Brazilian chef Janaina Torres. Named “The World's Best Female Chef” by the World's 50 Best in 2024, she is known for her zero-waste approach that combines culinary heritage with innovation.

“I have always believed that haute cuisine should be accessible, not intimidating. Food brings people together through new tastes, traditions and shared memories. I am proud to partner with Celebrity Cruises to showcase our culture on the world stage,” said Torres.

The official naming ceremony will take place on November 16, when Torres will christen the liner.
